There’s something about taking a trip outside the city with some good friends that can really brighten up a week. On Monday I started planning this Saturday adventure by asking my friend Dan if he was up for a hike in Shanendoah National Park. I knew he would be because it also happens to be one of his favorite locations.
Leaving for a day hike in Shenandoah requires an early start from D.C. So we met at 8:30 and got on the road soon after. It’s definitely worth renting a zip car for the day if you don’t have access to a friends car or your own car. The drive takes about 1.5 hours.
I am not a hiking expert so we consulted another blog before heading to the mountains. Following Virginia Trail Guide we took the Compton Peak trail. On the way down we did however do some trail blazing. My advice: stay on the trail, we all came out of the rough patches pretty scraped up.
